The proud and humble owner of Modern Mississauga, the city's premier lifestyle magazine, Jay has spent over two decades calling Mississauga home. Working closely with various businesses within our community, he takes pride in working alongside local businesses to provide solutions and to help them grow, flourish and succeed.
An established automotive and travel writer, Jay has been immersed in the music world for nearly four decades primarily via the guitar through teaching and performing, with both 91.1 Jazz FM and Y108 on his radio preset channels. As a strong supporter of the Community Foundation of Mississauga, he's honoured to be a part of this wonderful, exciting event and believes in strengthening our community together.
Jay says that he now realizes that a buffet, in fact, should no longer be seen as a challenge and several of his social media posts are centered around his three darling cats.
When they called our names, I felt the beginnings of nervousness stir in the pit of my stomach. However, with my first step and those to follow, I became more confident as we remembered the foot work, glided through our routine and mastered our performance. I then walked off the dance floor - having competed for the Golden Sands title - feeling 10 feet tall! I was 15 years old and this was my first time winning a major dance competition.
I could not have been more proud to have showed my parents the champion trophy, a testament to all our hard work. I knew then that I was at the right place doing the right thing and what I've come to learn that I do best.
More than 25 years later, after having successfully earned international titles including Bulgarian Cup Winner and Open to the World International Champion Athens, I have the privilege to share this knowledge and my passion of Ballroom and Latin Dance with professional performers, individuals and corporate clients around the world.
From 2000-04, I was captain and choreographer of the Asian Tour Formation Team, I undertook trainer's and judging tests in the U.S., worked as a full-time American Style Dance instructor, as well as competed with students in Pro-Am Division Competitions. Most recently, I coached and choreographed the Canadian Professional Champions in the American Rhythm category.
Watching my students excel and reach their full potential brings me back to my early days of dancing, those feelings of accomplishment and personal actualization. As the owner of Kostov Dance Studios, I work with dancers of all levels, helping them to build a strong dance foundation in a supportive and fun environment which promotes self-discovery.
